Police Shomreem Ministries
Personal Faith Statement &Personal Mission Statement OfPolice Chaplain: Ric WorshillPresident and Administrative Minister of Police Shomreem Ministries
Who Is Ric Worshill:
Melech
Ben Shmu'el - King Son Of Samuel
I
am a Messianic Jewish believer in Yeshua haMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) as
Messiah. I am a
Messianic Minister, called to the service of G-d and a 23 year veteran police
officer. I have served as a
minister of G-d, in chaplaincy, since 1987.
I served 2 years as a police officer for the State of Illinois, prior
to my present law enforcement employment. I am
now a full time municipal police officer and have served in this position for
over 21 years. I was 20+ years
in a public service business prior to entering a career in law enforcement.
During my law enforcement career I have attended over 1871 hours of police
services training. Among these police service trainings were over 250
hours of social services related training.
I have also attended over 563 hours of religious training and seminars. I
came to believe that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah in 1984.
Because of the love of G-d, the speaking of the Ruach Elohim (Spirit
of G-d), the fellowship of the brethren and being blessed with ears to hear,
I came from a Traditional Jewish background and an Orthodox Jewish ancestry,
to a personal relationship with the G-d and the Savior of the world, Yeshua Adonai (Jesus
the L-rd). I believe that I am a Jew who has a living relationship with
G-d and Messiah Yeshua, have His life and light dwelling within me. I am
still Jewish. I have come to
believe that Yeshua is the Messiah. I asked HaShem (G-d) to show me if He was the Messiah and
He did.
I became a police officer because I saw in the police profession that many of the officers, that I knew personally, had no relationship with G-d. I believe that a relationship with G-d should be the foundation for this honorable profession. Many of these officers had no faith to support them in times of trouble. The police officers who have a relationship with G-d need the support of someone who can be there in a ministry of presence. Someone to talk to who understands what they are going through or able to listen as they talk through the negative experience.
Several years ago I became a servant to G-d by saying
"here am I, send me" (Isaiah 6:8). After becoming a police
officer, I worked for several years under experienced police chaplains who
were dedicated to the well-being of the officers and communities that we
served. The ministry that G-d has placed before me is to minister to my
fellow police officers, co-workers and the citizens in the communities that I
serve. G-d calls and we
choose to follow or not to follow. I
and my house will serve the L-rd (Joshua 24:15). I am blessed to have a wife and family
who pray and support my call to this ministry.
My wife is my partner in life and ministry.
We work the good work of G-d together.
My wife also serves as an officer on the Police Shomreem Ministries
Board of Managers. As
an Ordained and Licensed Messianic Jewish Minister in Chaplaincy, my desire is to help my fellow
police officers and citizens in the communities that I serve. I
volunteer my services as a minister to several law enforcement agencies and
hospitals in the area. I do this volunteer service in hours that I
am not on duty with the police department where I am employed. I have
been actively working in this ministry since 1987.
Between 1987 and 1998 I volunteered time to serve in another police
chaplaincy ministry. In 1998 I was sent out
to start Police Shomreem Ministries. Since 1998 I have been able to be more
involved in this personal ministry. After starting this
ministry, I have been working to learn and grow more useful in service to the
Glory of G-d and His Kingdom.
The
other pages of this document illustrate my conviction to a ministry of
service to G-d. I have been blessed to be called to His service as a
full time police officer and a minister who teaches others to seek the Face
of G-d.
Religious Conviction: Worshiping
G-d should be a daily relationship. I
celebrate many of the Biblical festivals and holy days which may
include: (Found in Leviticus 23 & Esther 9:20-32) ·
Rosh Hashanah - Feast of Trumpets or Jewish New Year ·
Yom Kippur- Day of Atonement ·
Sukkot- Feast of Tabernacles ·
Simkat Torah – Joy in the giving of His Word ·
Chanukah- Feast of Dedication ·
Purim- Lots/Story of Esther ·
Pesach- Passover ·
Yom Habikurim - R'shiyt - First Fruits ·
Shavuot- Feast of Weeks/Pentecost I also worship G-d on the Shabbat and the L-rd's Day.
I
have been blessed to officiate Traditional Messianic Jewish Shabbat , Bar/Bat
Mitzvah and Mikvah (Baptism) services. I have been blessed to help
officiate at Messianic Jewish weddings and funerals. I have taught,
preached and spoken at several Churches
I
embrace the Judaic/Biblical roots of my faith, while at the same time I
believe in Yeshua as the Messiah. I believe that G-d loves each and
every one of us as His creations.
I
continue to study the Word of G-d, continually being filled with it's Truth. I work to
receive the good deposit of Life and Light, so I can be equipped to dispense
the Divine Life of a loving G-d to those I come in contact. There
is a Jewish prayer that speaks of the value of the Word of G-d. The
title is Ayts khayeem (Tree of Life)
and this is the liturgy that speaks of my love for His Word. Ayts khayeem hee' lamakhazeekeem
bah v‘tomkheha m'ooshar. d'rakheha
darkhay no-am v'khol n'teevoteha
shalom. Hasheevaynoo Adonai elekha v'nashoovah khadesh (khadesh) (khadesh yamaynoo) Khadesh yamaynoo k’kedem.
A
tree of life it (is) to those who take hold of
it and happy are those who support it. Its ways (are) ways
of pleasantness and all its paths are peace. Turn
us L-rd to you and let us return. Renew our days as of old. In
the book of Ezekiel (1:16-21) there are wheels with the move of G-d in them.
I choose to grab hold and go where they lead me. To comply with this, I
must live as we are taught in Deuteronomy 6:4-9. Hear, O Israel: The L-rd our
G-d, the L-rd is one! You
shall love the L-rd your G-d with all your heart, with all your soul, and
with all your strength." And
these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach
them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your
house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You
shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets
between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on
your gates.
[Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NKJV] I
am a sinner saved by grace. If it is not about my gaining a better
relationship with the L-rd G-d and Savior, I need to forget about it. If it
is not about bringing others to a relationship with the true L-rd our G-d and
Savior,
I should forget about it. If it is not about the Mashiach Yeshua, I must forget about it. But what things were gain to
me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things
loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my L-rd, for whom I
have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may
gain Christ and be found in Him,
not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is
through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from G-d by faith; that I
may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His
sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to
the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians
3:7-11 NKJV)
Beliefs:
I believe the following statement.
I
believe: "All
Scripture is given by inspiration of G-d (G-d Breathed), and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of
G-d may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3:16-17 NKJV)
I believe that the Bible is inerrant and the Word of G-d. The Bible is a reliable historical document, written down by eye witnesses, during the lifetime of other eye witnesses, they report to us supernatural events, that took place in fulfillment of specific prophesies, and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin. (Exodus 24:9-11; Genesis 18:1; 2 Peter 1:16-18; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; 21 John 1:1-4; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; etc.)
I believe
that the Torah, the prophets and the Holy Writings were given by G-d through
ancient Jewish holy men who wrote as G-d directed them. I believe that this
collection of inspired writings, the Tanach (Old Testament), is true and
inerrant. I believe
that the New Covenant (Brit Hadashah - New Testement) is the fulfillment of the prophecies of
the Tanach, especially of Jeremiah 31:31 in which G-d promised to give to
Israel a New Covenant. I believe that the Tanach and the Brit Hadashah comprise the Divinely given, inerrant Word of G-d, which is G-d's complete
and final revelation.
I believe that the Tanach and the Brit Hadashah are inherent as two parts of the same inspired Word of G-d. I
believe G-d sent His
redeemer in the person of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah). Holy
scriptures bear this truth in the proof text of:
·
He was to be a
descendant of David (Jeremiah 23:5-6). ·
He was to be born
in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2) ·
He was to have a
supernatural nature (Jeremiah 23:6, Micah 5:2, Isaiah 9:6). ·
He was to restore
man's relationship with G-d the Father (Isaiah 49:6, 53:12, Daniel 9:24). ·
He was to die in a
certain prescribed and prophesied manner (Isaiah 53:8, Daniel 9:26, Psalm
22:14-17). ·
He was to rise from
the dead (Psalm 16:10). ·
He was to come
before the destruction of the second temple in 70CE
(Daniel 9:26). I
believe History tells us the Mashiach Yeshua
(Messiah Jesus) fulfilled not only
these but many more specific prophecies! I believe
that Yeshua, Who was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth, is the Divine
Son of G-d, the Son of David, of the Tribe of Judah, the true Messiah
prophesied in the Tanach, by the Prophets and the Holy Writings (Genesis 49:10; Deuteronomy 18:15-18; Isaiah 53; Jeremiah 23:5- 6; Micah 5:2 [1];
Psalm 2; Psalm 22; Proverbs 30:4) I believe
that all people of the world are invited to be a part of G-d's New Covenant
by trusting in Israel's Messiah, Yeshua (Isaiah 42:6-7; 49:6; 60:3). I believe
that forgiveness of sin comes only through a blood atonement as stated in the
Torah (Leviticus 17:11) and that the only atonement G-d accepts today is the
atonement made by Messiah Yeshua (Psalm 2: 12; Isaiah 53: 10-11; John 14:6;
Acts 4:12). I believe that Ha'Shem (G-d) is against human sacrifice of any kind.
I believe that G-d came to earth in the form of a man to offer Himself as the only true, worthy, sacrifice for our sin. G-d is our Redeemer. (Isaiah 1:11; Jeremiah 6:20; Hosea 6:6; Amos 5:22; Malachi 1:14; Isaiah 59:20; Isaiah 44:6; Psalms 78:35: Job 19:25)
I believe
that Messiah Yeshua was resurrected from the grave to be the eternal Priest
of the New Covenant (Psalm 16:10). I believe
that Messiah Yeshua is coming back to earth, to rule the earth, in a Kingdom
of Righteousness. I believe that He came the first time as the Suffering
Servant of Isaiah 53 to make atonement for sin, and that He is returning to
set up G-d's Kingdom on earth (Isaiah 2; Isaiah 11; Daniel 7; Matthew 19:
27-28).
I believe that all doctrine comes from the Word of G-d and no other place ( Deuteronomy 12:32; Matthew 5:18; 1 Timothy 1:3; 2 Timothy 2:15; Galatians 1:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
I believe that faith in Messiah Yeshua is the only way to salvation. There is a choice needed to be made (Deuteronomy 30:19-20). We must submit to the knowledge that we need salvation from sin. We must ask the Savior into our heart, surrendering all to Him in repentance for all our sin and in faith follow His will. ("By faith" is mentioned 40 times in the Brit Hadashah) ( The words "repentance and repent are mentioned 61 times.)
I
believe that there is one Body, one Spirit and we need to be of one mind
in Yeshua (Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 10:17, 12:12,13,20; Ephesians 2:16,
4:4; Colossians 3:15).
"For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for
the same L-rd is L-rd of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for
WHOEVER
WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE L-RD WILL BE SAVED." (Romans 10:12-13) I am committed to these objectives:
(a) Minister to law enforcement officers (b) Minister to other members of a department (c) Minister to the families of law enforcement officers and other department personnel (d) Visit sick or injured officers and departmental personnel in homes and hospitals (e) Make death notifications and minister to the immediate spiritual needs of the persons notified (f) Provide assistance to victims, pooling resources and ministering to the stress of the incident (g) Teach officers in areas such as Stress Management, Ethics, Family Life, and Pre-retirement classes and courses (h) Serve as part of a department's Crisis Response Team and Critical Incident Debriefing Team (i) Assist at suicide incidents (j) Serve as liaison and work with other clergy in the community (k) Provide for the spiritual needs of prisoners (l) Furnish Biblical responses to religious questions (m) Offer prayers at special occasions such as police recruit graduations, awards ceremonies, and dedication of buildings (n) Serve on review boards, award boards, and other committees (o) Pool resources to help with transients and the homeless (p) I am ready to meet the people in churches to discuss and bring the message of the need for this ministry (Romans 1:16) (q) Pray for and with officers and citizens as needed. (James 5:16) (r) Help ministers get started in chaplaincy (s) Help ministers get started in their ministries (t) Help disciple others to be involved in ministry service (u) I will work to bring a ministry of presence to those who are going through trials and tribulations (v) To minister ecumenically to help people of all faiths, races, religions and nationalities, helping them in times of trouble
Ethics
Statement: Since I believe that Yeshua is the true
Messiah Who takes
away the sins of the world, and that I am Scripturally obligated to present
this "good news" to everyone. I resolve that:
I Will:
"I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the L-RD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. The L-RD is your keeper; The L-RD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The L-RD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The L-RD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever." (Psalms 121)
"The
gospel must first be preached to all the nations. [Mark
13:10 NASU] "Go
into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
" He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved;
but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. (Mark
16:15-16 NASU) “And thus I aspired to preach the gospel , not where Christ was already named, so that I would not build on another man's foundation; but as it is written, "THEY WHO HAD NO NEWS OF HIM SHALL SEE, AND THEY WHO HAVE NOT HEARD SHALL UNDERSTAND." (Rom 15:20-21 NASU) "As every man
hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good
stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister ,
let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." (1
Peter 4:10-11 KJV) "Now all
things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and
has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in
Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to
them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation." (2
Cor 5:18-19 NKJV) "Take heed to
the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill
it." (Col 4:17 NKJV) "And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead." (Acts 10:42 NKJV) “Blessed be the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all
comfort , who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to
comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Cor 1:3-4
NASU) “For the Lord
Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel
and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then
we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” (1
Thess 4:15-18 NASU) "In
everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the
weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is
more blessed to give than to receive.'"
(Acts 20:35 NASU) “We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak , be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thess 5:14-18 NASU) "Let the peace of Christ rule in
your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and
admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with thankfulness in your hearts to G-d. Whatever you do in word or deed, do
all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to G-d the
Father." [Col 3:15-17 NASU] A Ministry Of CarePolice
